Buoy Removal

July 31, 2026

The buoys that marked rocks and other shallow areas have been removed from Big Indian Lake. The town was unsuccessful when searching for individuals who would donate their time and boat to do the required duties that it entails. Due to the lack of assistance, the state of Maine department within the Bureau of Parks and Lands demanded the buoys be removed as soon as possible.

We understand the hardships that many will face when utilizing the lake and wish the situation had a better outcome. We strongly urge those who use the lake to be cautious when taking their boats out.

Please contact the Town Office if anyone is interested in the idea of taking on the duties required for the buoys.
